Green Highlander painting complete

I started correspondance with Sarah Wilson from Scotland about 2 years ago.

Sarah does beautiful paintings of Classic Salmon Flies of Fly Tyer's from around the world.

I'm very honored that Sarah chose my Green Highlander variation to paint and market as a limited signed edition prints. 3 of my Green Highlanders were commissioned by Sarah for the project and one of my Highlanders will accompany each print sold. Limited to 3 only.

You can see more of her work here....... Sarah Wilson's Website

She has listed the Green Highlanders for sale on Ebay at the moment. You can view the listing here..... Green Highlander's on Ebay.

All the Best,

Damian Welsh.

Ocean & Moose-Day out taking pictures

Took the opportunity to get out of the house with the wife and kids the other day, a little overcast but a nice mild day, compared to what we've been having here lately. These shots were taken 3 days ago, there's still alot of pack ice in the harbours and quite a bit of snow in the mountains, hopefully spring isn't too far away and evidence of that is the second picture, a cow moose grazing in the swamp looking for new growth shoots I'm assuming, or else she was just being nosey. She caused quite a traffic jam along the side of the road, luckily I had my camera out and ready to go. I'm going to be picking up and additional zoom lens for this camera, the moose was quite some distance from the road, so even with 300mm zoom it wasn't as close as I'd like it to be in the frame of the shot. Another lens should fix that problem.

I'll have to add the photos after, having some computer issues.

More Pictures Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum

Here are some more shots of the Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum which was held March 31st and April 1st 2007 in Dieppe New Brunswick, Canada.

Author Don Maclean at the show, promoting his new book, A Little Thing I Tied Myself, a great book that I highly reccommend.

A shot of the fly tyer's table on Sunday, it was quieter on Sunday so I had a chance to take some pictures. World Champion Fly Tyer, Jerome Molloy standing under UNI banner at right.

Here's a shot of Fly Fusion Magazine's booth, they were quite busy spreading the word about their great magazine.

...........more shots to come

Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum

The Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum 2007 was dedicated to the memory of Warren Duncan, arguably the Best Hairwing Fly Tyer's in the World and from all the stories I've heard, one hell of a man and friend to many.

I had the pleasure of meeting Warren and watch him tie in 2005, I was in awe by his presence.

I was looking forward to doing the same this year, but unfortunately that didn't come to be as Warren passed away in February.

I had the opportunity to sit in on a tribute seminar at the show this weekend and I wish I had known this man as so many others had come to. Warren inspired me and his work will live on to inspire others.

Tight lines Dunc,

Will post more photo's.

Parma Belle Variation

Here's is a photo of a variation on the ol' classic wet fly pattern, "Parmachennee Belle".

Again, a bit since my last post. I've recently found a new passion, Bird Watching. I'm posting a picture of a "Painted Bunting" a rare sighting here in Grand Etang, Cape Breton for this time of year. The bird should be wintering in Mexico, Southern tip of Florida or the Carribean by now. We've captured some photo's and I'd like to share one with you.

Sunday, November 12, 2006

Well, it's been a long time again between posts, still so busy with the new job and family. I do however have some news on the fly tying front......

The 2007 Winter issue of Fly Fishing & Tying Journal just hit the shelves and I have a fly I designed appearing in print in the "Patent Patterns" contest column.

All and all things are very busy, wanting to get back to the tying bench and writing more articles for "Hatches Magazine" and continuing with my writing course with the North American School of Outdoor Writing. Looking forward to a cozy winter in Cheticamp, feeding the birds, snaring rabbits in the back yard and writing and tying flies on those cold windy winter nights that are soon to come.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

All the Best,

Damian Welsh
